NGP Type I Coilover System - VW Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport
We are excited to present our latest Type I coilover system- The NGP Street/Sport Performance Coilover System for the Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Crosssport. Relying on an extensive knowledge base and German engineering, we've designed a coilover system that offers the ultimate mix of daily-driving ride comfort, performance handling, and vehicle safety and stability.
Unhappy with the lack of lowering coilover options available to enthusiasts, our goal was to build a high-quality coilover system that offers all the lowering you'd want while retaining the ride quality and comfort you expect from a European SUV. After significant testing, we've developed a coilover system that achieves those goals and offers long-lasting reliability thanks to German engineering and manufacturing.
The custom-valved, twin-tube low-pressure shocks of our Type I Coilovers feature an internal damping system matched to high-quality alloy springs that adjust and adapt to the varying conditions experienced on US roads. That means unparalleled handling without sacrificing great ride quality in all conditions.
The dampers used in our Type I coilover kits feature lightweight steel housings with heavy-duty zinc plating for corrosion resistance and weather protection. Making height adjustments front and rear is easy thanks to the more coarse thread style used on the front strut housings and rear spring perches. They also utilize a single-locking perch design, which prevents the binding issues seen with coilover systems that rely on a dual-perch design.
Features:
- Ride Height Adjustable from 30mm-65mm [1.2" to 2.5"]
- Made in Germany
- Custom-calibrated progressive rate front and rear springs
- High-grade corrosion-resistant steel housings with zinc plating
- Twin tube, low-pressure shock design
- Fully powder-coated alloy springs
- 5-year limited warranty
All Type I coilovers feature a five (5) year limited warranty for springs and damper parts. Please get in touch with info@ngpracing.com for any warranty-related questions.

Lowering Your Vehicle Will Increase Camber
One of the natural side-effects of lowering the suspension on these vehicles is increased negative camber. Lowering your Atlas slightly will keep the camber within spec, but if you lower it more than 1.5 inches, you will require camber plates to bring the camber into spec. This extra camber is beneficial to handling, but at the expense of increased tire wear.
We have provided options above for making these adjustments via camber mounts. Some offer a fixed amount of pre-adjusted camber, while others offer true adjustability. If you are concerned more with comfort, we recommend choosing the Eurosport option, as those come with a rubber strut mount.
Why should I purchase new strut mounts?
New German Performance always recommends replacing strut mounts when installing new shocks and struts on all VW and Audi vehicles that use them. If you're not familiar with what a strut mount is or why they need to be replaced, this quick explainer should help:
On modern vehicles, the strut mount is made up of two parts, the bearing and a rubber bushing. A strut bearing is just that- a bearing that helps your suspension articulate smoothly and freely. Volkswagen and Audi vehicles only require strut bearings on the front suspension, with the bearing installed on top of the coil spring and affixed to the chassis. As every bump, dip, and pothole your car endures wears these components, they will begin to bind, become noisy, and create play in your suspension which will lead to more ride harshness, poor handling, and increased tire wear.
Installing new strut mounts will allow the car to be aligned properly, and ensure you get the handling you desire with your new sport suspension. They are sold by the pair, and they require no extra labor when installing them with a new suspension.
What's the difference between 034Motorsport and factory strut mounts?
034Motorsport strut mounts utilize a stiffer rubber compound that offers better handling and more resistance to wear. This is especially true if you enjoy pushing your Atlas hard through the corners. They also tend to hold up better on lowered vehicles which have increased levels of stress put on them. Please note that while the 034Motorsport strut mounts will provide better handling and last longer, they are more firm than factory mounts and will lower your ride quality slightly.
Review from our first shop install
Before releasing our coilovers for sale, we installed a kit onto a customer's vehicle to get some final feedback and photos (the black Atlas Cross Sport in the photos above is his). Here's what our customer had to say:
After the installation of these coil overs the handling and ride was more in line of what I was looking for in my Atlas. Turns are awesome, No hesitation in taking a turn or exit ramp with the feel of body roll or the feel of not sticking to the road. I’ve had the car loaded up more than expected with these coil overs. A college move in day, 20 bags of mulch etc. No complaints just take your bumps smart and you’ll be fine. The comfort is still there for every day driving and it looks So much better! Running 15mm spacers on the factory wheels. Upgrading rims and wheels soon.
