Genuine VW/Audi thermostat gasket for 1.8T and 2.0T Gen 3 TSI engines. The thermostat gasket goes between the thermostat assembly on the water pump and the engine block.
The water pump assembly on the Gen3 TSI engine is prone to leaking. Unfortunately it's fairly common to have more than one failure of this part during the lifetime of your vehicle. Many of the water pump replacement kits include this gasket, but some do not. The thermostat gasket should always be replaced when installing a new water pump assembly.

Installation Tip:
It's very important to thoroughly clean the surface of the engine when replacing the water pump. Over our many years replacing water pumps on these engines, we have noticed that failure to clean the mating surface where the water pump sits against the engine can cause leaking. Save yourself some time and money by taking the time to properly clean and prep the mating surface of the engine before installing a new water pump.
