Upgraded APR Stage 2 AWD Controller Software represents the highest level of performance optimization available for Gen 5 Haldex-equipped vehicles equipped with a factory controller. While Stage 1 enhances clutch engagement within the factory hardware’s operating range, Stage 2 expands that range by integrating APR’s upgraded pressure relief valve assembly. This allows the system to safely command significantly greater clutch pressure during launches and high-load events. This ensures that increased engine output is effectively transferred to the rear axle. The result is stronger launches, faster and more consistent AWD engagement and improved traction during aggressive driving. Despite the increased capability, APR Stage 2 retains full OEM integration and system safeguards, preserving factory drivability during normal operation. Clutch pressure is intelligently reduced after launch to minimize unnecessary drivetrain strain while maintaining performance where it matters most. The software and hardware are engineered together as a cohesive system, delivering meaningful performance gains without compromising reliability or daily usability. For enthusiasts demanding maximum AWD performance from their platform, Stage 2 completes the drivetrain upgrade path confidently putting power to the pavement when it counts.
ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS: Proper maintenance and usage are critical to ensure long-term performance and reliability of the Haldex AWD system. Always maintain proper manufacturer service intervals (or more frequently under performance use).
HALDEX SYSTEM CONSIDERATIONS: The Haldex AWD system plays a critical role in launch consistency and torque distribution. Allow for a cool-down period between launches to prevent overheating and maintain consistent engagement. Repeated launches without cooldown may reduce AWD effectiveness and increase component wear.
REQUIRED UPGRADES & SOFTWARE PAIRING: To ensure proper drivetrain performance, consistency, and durability, the following calibrated software combinations are required. These components are designed to work together as a complete system:
Audi RS3 Required: APR ECU + APR TCU + APR AWD Software (all w. Haldex designation) | VW Golf R Required: APR TCU + APR AWD Software (all w. Haldex designation)
Mk7 Golf R Results (93):
· 60 FT Improvement Over Stock – Stage 1: 0.14s | Stage 2: 0.20s
· 0-60 MPH Improvement Over Stock – Stage 1: 0.34s | Stage 2: 0.46s
· 0-100 MPH Improvement Over Stock – Stage 1: 0.14s | Stage 2: 0.34s
· ¼ Mile Improvement Over Stock – Stage 1: 0.18s | Stage 2: 0.30s
Audi RS3 8V Results (E85)
· 60 FT Improvement Over Stock – Stage 1: 0.06s | Stage 2: 0.21s
· 0-60 MPH Improvement Over Stock – Stage 1: 0.23s | Stage 2: 0.53s
· 0-100 MPH Improvement Over Stock – Stage 1: 0.27s | Stage 2: 0.56s
· ¼ Mile Improvement Over Stock – Stage 1: 0.27s | Stage 2: 0.47s
*Reported results may vary
RECOMMENDED TIRES & PRESSURES: The following tire setups were used to achieve APR’s published performance figures. For similar results, we recommend Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires in the following sizes.
Audi RS3: Front: 265/30R19 | 30 PSI & Rear: 245/35R19 @ 32 PSI & Volkswagen Golf R: Front: 235/35R19 @ 38 PSI | Rear: 235/35R19 @ 38 PSI
FUEL LEVEL RECOMMENDATIONS: Maintaining proper fuel levels is critical for consistent performance due to increased fuel slosh under high-load conditions. During our testing the Golf R on pump gas required no less than 3/4 tank for maximum acceleration. The RS3 on E85 required a minimum of 100 miles remaining fuel range.
Features:
- Stage 1 software-only direct flash of the OEM Haldex control unit
- Works within the factory control architecture vs. piggyback/standalone – no high-cost hardware changes needed.
- OEM Integration: Retains factory safeguards, drivability, and system logic.
- Optimized clutch pressure control for high-load + launch conditions (proactively increases clamping pressure when it matters).
- Real Data: 7-8 Bar clutch pressure increases in Stage 1 tune, using only software
- Real Results: Speed improvements due to better launches in all stages versus stock.
- Burnout Mode: Factory-integrated front-wheel-drive mode to clean and warm tires before launching
- AWD Mode (default) strategy advancement: quicker response to throttle/slip and earlier back-off to reduce driveline stress.
