The Tie rod end is a crucial part of your steering and suspension system. A bad tie rod can lead to a number of noises and increased slop in the steering, and eventually, full failure. They tend to last a while even with heavy use, but it's best to check them regularly to make sure there are no tears or play. A tie rod with ANY amount of play should be replaced, as it will effect alignment, tire wear, etc.
