The rear main seal is a common leaking point on any generation of the TSI engine. Typical signs of rear main seal failure is oil leaking from between the transmission case and engine block. An associated drop in boost pressure usually also occurs when this seal is leaking. Replace yours before major damage occurs to your engine!
Upgrade for Gen 1 and Gen 2 TSI engines
This seal can also be installed to a Gen 1 or Gen 2 TSI engine as well. We have tested and proven this on our own project cars.
High quality part produced by Elring, which is the producer of the factory seal for VW.
Don't be fooled by aftermarket solutions using a 30+ year old seal design! VW changed the design of this seal for a reason when they designed the TSI engine. The engine seal design on FSI and all prior engines utilized a spring loaded rubber setup that does was never designed to cope with the excessive vibrations produced by a modern direct injection engine.
