OE, OEM and Genuine Parts Explained
×OE Or OEM
OE, shorthand for Original Equipment, parts are the same as what was originally installed on your car and what you'd buy at the dealership parts counter, but with the dealer logos removed by the manufacturer (they will be stamped with the OE's name and logo instead).
OEM, Original Equipment Manufacturer, parts are produced by a manufacturer that supplies OE parts to vehicle manufacturers. Because they are produced side-by-side with OE parts, OEM parts are held to strict quality standards and quality control.
Genuine Or Aftermarket
Genuine parts are sourced directly from the vehicle manufacturer and at a higher cost compared to OE and OEM parts. These are the same parts found on your vehicle, and what you'd buy at your dealership's parts counter.
Aftermarket parts are non-factory parts and accessories that are used to repair or maintain a vehicle. These parts may be produced by a manufacturer that supplies OE parts to a vehicle manufacturer, but not always. Aftermarket parts are not original to the car and are often built with affordability in mind. They may also be the only available option for discontinued Genuine parts.
LIQUI MOLY CERA TEC is a high-tech ceramic wear protection product for all motor oils. CERA TEC reduces friction and wear due to ceramic compounds that withstand extremely high chemical and thermal loads. Prevents direct metal-to-metal contact, thus increasing the engine service life. The low-friction effect reduces fuel consumption in gasoline and diesel engines. Sufficient for 5 liters of motor oil.
When used in conjunction with a Liqui Moly Pro-Line Engine Flush and a proper oil change, Cera Tec has been proven to restore power output levels to high mileage engines.
Liqui Moly recommends using Cera Tec every 30,000 miles.
Cera Tec or MoS2
A very common question that comes up in our shop is whether to use Cera Tec or MoS2 since they are both anti-friction additives. While they are very similar, Cera Tec uses a more advanced ceramic compound to do its job and MoS2 uses Molybdenum. Cera Tec's benefits also tend to last through several oil changes, so if you're looking for longer lasting results, go with Cera Tec.
Usage Recommendation
We prefer to use Cera Tec and MoS2 in concert with each other. You shouldn't combine these two additives at the same time. Instead, we recommend using Cera Tec for your first oil change, and then using MoS2 for every remaining oil change for about 30k miles. Then you simply need to use Cera Tec on your next oil change. This method ensures that your vehicle has the maximum amount of protection from wear since it combines the benefits of both compounds.
