Thanks to our extensive motorsport experience, we have found (to our cost) that the MQB EA888 Gen3 2.0T engines have a tendency to collect a large volume of oil within the cylinder head during combined heavy braking and cornering under track conditions. You'd be very unlikely to experience this on a standard car on road. But push your car hard on-track, with track-tyres and uprated brakes and this is something that you need to be aware of.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eTake a look at the Golf 7R in the image gallery: fitted with another aftermarket catch can kit but with rather shocking clouds of white oil smoke billowing out of the exhausts. This is exactly the situation described above. Under braking, the oil is forced to escape through the rocker cover breather ports filling the catch tank in a matter of seconds. The overflowing, overwhelmed tank then spits the surplus oil straight through into the intake, causing this smoke. And that's not all. With no oil returning to the sump, this starves the oil pick up (inside the sump, where it shuold collect oil to lubricate the engine) and the engine can momentarily “run dry” - enough to cause devastating consequences to your engine internals. Not good, to say the least.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eWhere our clever system differs is by diverting this trapped oil via our integral baffle design straight back down into the main camshaft area of the cylinder head.engine rather than allowing it to escape out through breather ports. It's no surprise that this was achieved by adopting technology similar to that found in the SEATSport\/Volkswagen TCR EA888 touring cars. All this add ups to the VWR Oil Management System being essential for reliability, engine safety and performance if you're planning to be pulling high-G forces anytime.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWhy use the VWR Oil Management System?\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eWhat does the VWR Catch Tank and Oil Management System do? By extracting the “blow by” gasses in a positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) engine such as the EA888, particularly when running higher boost pressures, it collects and condenses the oil and moisture vapours in the catch can. Otherwise, this mist enters the intercooler piping and inlet tract, condenses, so gradually fills it with oil residue. As well as keeping the whole intake path clean, this also means that these oil vapours don't get fed back into the combustion chamber, ensuring a much purer, uncontaminated air\/fuel mixture entering the cylinder - oil vapor is not an ideal substance to have entering your combustion chamber. The result – clean intercooler, intake track and charge piping, and a higher efficiency engine for many years.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eBut the VWR Catch Tank and Oil Management System delivers more than just this important function. The EA888 Gen3 engine, when used on track with track-spec tyres, can suffer from oil-starvation under very heavy braking G forces. The oil pools at the top front of the engine during this high-G occurrence, which has ultimately led to engine failures on our circuit cars. Most breather systems will simply swallow up this pooled oil, adding to the risk of oil-starve. The VWR Catch Tank and Oil Management System is different in that it replaces the entire PCV block, and uses the same solution to avoid this as the factory TCR\/Seat Sport EA888-engined race cars do. A large header volume in the Engine Breather Plate on top of the engine contains a carefully-angled baffle which instantly diverts this excess oil straight back into the engine’s oil return, greatly reducing the chance of surge. To our amazement, some catch can systems on the market simply retain the standard PCV block connected to a catch can, rather than replace the Engine Breather Plate - to us, that is only half of a system.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eDevelopment:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eOil level measurement in the can is via a beautiful billet dip stick – avoiding the clear plastic level window that discolours rapidly on some catch cans. Emptying is simply via drain port supplied complete with blanking plug and nitrile rubber o-ring – no need to disconnect the pipework to measure or empty the can.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eTwo mounting brackets secure the tank firmly to the existing engine mount. The lower bracket utilises the main engine mount bolt whilst the upper bracket relies on the M6 thread located on the upmost part of the engine mount casting.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eThe tank location gives it the maximum capacity and means that it’s a direct bolt-on for GTI models; on R models, where the washer bottle is in this space, intelligent design means that simply removing the filler neck for the washer bottle allows fitment of the catch can (a remote fill kit for the washer is available separately as an option above).\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eThe hard-anodised billet engine breather plate is produced in two sections (base plate and separate tub) plus a removable internal baffle plate to allow for easy cleaning and inspection.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eIncluded in the kit are two AN-10 \"210 series” oil lines in the perfect length for easy install. Constructed with a CPE synthetic inner rubber lining the hose is then reinforced with a layer of stainless steel braid and finished with a black nylon outer weave providing added protection and an attractive finish.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ePerformance:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eFor an engine to produce the maximum amount of energy per ignition of the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber, any amount of oil in this mixture causes a decrease in octane which will hamper the explosion resulting in less energy released, detonation, and carbon buildup. The VWR Catch Tank collects and separates these vapours.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eWhere other systems vent directly out of the rocker cover (or even, to our surprise, don't replace the PCV engine breather plate at all), the VWR system is very similar to the solution used on the EA888-engined factory TCR touring cars – the larger header volume of the breather plate is combined with both an angled internal baffle plate plus multiple drain holes, allowing immediate oil return during high-G incidents.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eThis allows a first stage of oil separation to drain straight back into engine, which will help prevent the engine failures through oil-starve under high-G braking. All sales of open box products are final.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf you are only looking to improve one part of your Golf 7 or other MQB platform vehicle's suspension, you won’t do better than installing the Racingline Sport Springs.  What do they do?  Well, by replacing the car’s four standard springs with re-engineered, different-rate and shorter Racingline Sport Springs,  the vehicle’s centre of gravity is lower, reducing body roll for better handling whilst maintaining the ride quality and comfort of your car.  No other changes are needed, it’s as simple as that.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThey have been painstakingly developed to work perfectly with your standard dampers – \u003cstrong\u003eno fewer than 22 different springs combinations were trialed in their development\u003c\/strong\u003e.  This is what makes the Racingline Sport Springs special – Racingline has concentrated all of our engineering development into the Golf 7 for the past 6 months, rather than offering a wide range of ‘generic’ springs for all makes and models as many spring companies do.  We would only offer a spring set that has been developed exclusively for your car, rather than one that ‘will do’.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWhat's The Difference?\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003eAs the standard-fit dampers are of a much more sophisticated design on Golf 7 than on previous generations of cars, we have found that fitting an upgraded ‘Racingline Sport Spring’ kit delivers a surprisingly worthwhile improvement to your car, subtly stiffening and lowering it.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe Racingline Sport Springs that Racingline have developed for the Golf 7 (and the other cars using the new MQB platforms) all match correctly to the standard dampers, making this a very cost-effective modification to any of these cars.  With different engine weights, we have different options for front springs depending on your car’s powertrain.  These springs are fully compatible with cars fitted with Volkswagen’s switchable ACC (Adjustable Chassis Control) dampers.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWe now recommend this set up for all but the most demanding use (such as track use, or when a very low ride-height is required, for which the Racingline StreetSport Coilover Suspension kits are ideal).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eDevelopment\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003eMany experts consider suspension development to be as much an art as a science.  In truth, it’s a bit of both.  What is certain is that an ‘off the shelf’ spring set that some companies offer is not going to be optimised for any particular car.  For our Racingline Sport Springs, we were very determined to put extensive development into determining the perfect specifications for the Golf 7 ‘MQB’ platform.  So, our pre-production development cars have covered thousands of miles in UK and Germany to determine the ideal specification for these Sport Springs;  we are very proud of the end results and can promise with confidence that we believe these to be the best springs for your Golf 7 on the market.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWe have chosen to lower the GTI\/GTD by 20-30 mm, and the non-GTI models by 30-35mm for each kit in order to preserve the wheel travel needed to keep the usability of the standard car (different lowering as the GTI\/GTD are already lower from the factory).  Go lower or stiffer as some popular lowering springs do, and in our experience your car will bounce and crash its way along the road as the dampers are mismatched to spring-rate, and the springs themselves run out of wheel travel.  You also risk reducing the life of your dampers significantly if you choose the wrong springs - which the Racingline Sport Springs are guaranteed not to do.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHaving tested springs with a variety of different types of construction, the Racingline Sport Springs are a progressive rate spring with a barrel-type shape so the end forms come slightly in.  This allows Racingline to preserve the ride quality in normal use, but stiffen the spring rates at the ends of its travel when cornering or braking hard.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eTechnical\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003eThe springs come in powder-coated gloss Racingline grey with Volkswagen Racing logos, and work extremely well in combination with the Racingline Anti-Roll Bars. Note that we recommend that you get your car’s wheel-tracking verified as a part of the installation process.
